What is Heart Health?

I might argue your heart is your most important organ, or at least in the top three organs to sustain life. Although all the organs are important for your body to function in homeostasis I am very passionate about the heart. Homeostasis is our body’s innate self-regulation system to maintain balance inside the body. A simple example of homeostasis that happens every day is the ability of our heart rate to speed up automatically on its own to meet the body’s demand for increased blood flow. What happens when you jump up and down vigorously for 20 seconds… your heart rate increases to meet your body’s demand for energy to your muscles. Go ahead and give it a try.
The heart is a fascinating organ composed of various components such as chambers, valves and blood vessels. The heart beat is generated by the electricity of the SA node. Our body also has 2 other natural pacemakers in place as backups if the SA node fails. Heart health is composed of exercise , proper nutrition, sleep, stress reduction, emotional intelligence and healthy relationships amongst other things. After working in the hospital for years I want to help you improve your heart health to keep you out of the hospital.
